Boy playing — Childcare in Rathmines, NSW

Preschool care for 6 weeks to 6 year olds

Rathmines Preschool is designed to nurture school readiness, personal growth, and social interaction. Your little ones will be well cared for while older children will be equipped with skills to prepare them for a school environment. You can be certain your child will have an activity-packed day, full of fun and adventures.

As a parent it’s normal to experience some separation anxiety and feel like you miss some of your child’s milestones, but we’ll document all the action and keep you up-to-date with all the goings on, in real time through our KidsXap app.

During the day we will provide your child with a nutritious lunch, as well as healthy morning and afternoon tea.

Physical Environment and Inclusive Practices

Being a purpose-built service, all areas—both indoors and outdoors—have been designed to cater for children and adults of all abilities. All areas are wheelchair accessible, and also meet the needs of those with vision impairments, hearing impairments and other disabilities.

We are recognised as an inclusive service, meaning that we cater for the needs of each individual child. We work with the Department of Education and Trainings Inclusion Support Agency, and we are the first centre in the area to be officially recognised as an Inclusive Service.

Educational Programmes and Practices

At Arcadia Vale Care & Early Education Centre, we follow and implement the guidelines of the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF), the National Quality Standards and the National Quality Framework. The EYLF is a programming framework involving five learning outcomes, and incorporates all areas of child development. The play-based framework ensures that the learning experiences provided are based on the interests and needs of the children, and ensures that children and families are proactive in the formulation of the daily programme.

Children spend many years in institutional environments. Our philosophy is to provide a homely environment with learning experiences that provide children with maximum learning opportunities. Each child will have an individual developmental record and will be provided with activities that cater to their individual needs. This will be done in conjunction with activities designed for the group as a whole.

The learning outcomes incorporated into our programme are:

  • Children have a strong sense of identity
  • Children are connected with & contribute to their world
  • Children have a strong sense of well being
  • Children are confident and involved learners
  • Children are effective communicators
  • Social & emotional development (playing with friends, being part of a group)
  • Self-help skills (becoming independent, looking after their belongings)

The learning experiences will cover all areas of development including:

  • Language development (expressive, receptive, literacy)
  • Cognitive development (thinking skills, maths, science, problem solving)
  • Physical development (gross motor and fine motor)
  • School readiness
  • Social skills and creativity

Being, Belonging and Becoming are embedded into all areas of our service.

While a child’s development is very important children are given time to enjoy the magic and wonder of childhood, and to have what all children should have: FUN!

We believe:

  • Every child is unique & deserves respect.
  • In providing opportunities to discover & develop in a fun environment
  • Play experiences & activities should reflect the interest of your child & the larger group In playing an active role in caring for the environment, establishing awareness of sustainable, & eco-friendly living through daily activities, race, language, beliefs, family structure or lifestyle
  • In treating all children, families & educators with respect regardless of gender, age, & socioeconomic status.
